This P-51D flown by Lt. Col. Wayne Blickenstaff of the 350th Fighter Squadron - 353rd Flight Group - is shown in late 1944 escorting a group of B-17s home as the sun sets. It has been a long day and a even longer mission. The men are tired and some on board the Bj-17s may be wounded but soon the planes will return to base for debriefing and rest following the long ride home.
